Recently, Dr. Davis sat down with Mr. & Mrs. Scott, Founders of Transformation Theatre Productions Inc, for an interview to ask The Scotts a few questions about: “Transformation Theatre Productions Inc”
Q: What inspired the creation of Transformation Theatre Productions Inc.?
A: I, Lawrence Scott, have been doing theatre ministry for 35 years, traveling both nationally and internationally. Starting as Actors for Christ, we had been a touring company. As age and responsibilities eventually caught up with us, we put our venture on hold. Now reflecting on the past and moving into the future, we decided to resurrect the plays we had just sitting doing nothing. We decided to establish an urban theatre setting where people could come to us.
Q: What is it about Transformation Theatre Productions Inc. that interests you?
A: It is a blessing to see audience reaction and how lives are challenged and transformed by the particular productions. Also bringing the Word of God to life and showing its relevance in today’s society is a blessing. The world has taken stories from the bible and changed their meaning and context and we want to restore the original message of the text.
Q: How can the local community and surrounding areas benefit from your services?
A: Our productions are family oriented without the profanity , sex or violence that permeates the movies and television. We have productions that show how to apply biblical principles to solve issues that we face. Our plays leave our audiences with a message from which both youth and adults can learn. We want to be able to offer employment also with the community. Better youth make better adults and both make for better communities.
Q: What are your goals and strategies for promoting your business’s growth?
A: Transformation Theatre Inc. has just finished our video production” The Trials of J. O. Butler” a contemporary update on the. Book of Job in the Bible. We have a website and will be doing radio, television spots, along with print advertising and word of mouth advertising which is always the cheapest and most effective.
Q: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced?
A: The biggest challenge has been generating income. With the pandemic we have been unable to look for a home base or even have live performances. We looked to see what other companies were doing and we decided to film and stream our plays until we can have a building. God has opened the door to allow us to be able to get into more homes through technology, with a wider radius of impact. We have had to become more tech savvy and thank God for young people!
Q: What is your vision for the company?
A: Our vision is to become one of the top Christian theatre ministries in the country. We would like to eventually have our own weekly performances and be able to train both youth and adults in the theatre arts. I would like to see us expand to other cities and in other areas of the country. I would like to have a podcast, movies, and theatre locations. I would love to see Transformation Theatre become multi-racial. I would like to see our productions become translated into other languages and performed before different cultures.
Q: What is your strategy for selecting the right team members?
A: We seek individuals who have a heart for ministry and a desire to see lives changed to further God’s kingdom according to Romans 12:1-2. People who are teachable, flexible and have a desire to use their gift to glorify God. Creativity is also helpful. We seek individuals who are not just in front of the camera or stage but we need writers, directors, set design, camera operators, marketing, musical, dance.
Q: Did you have a mentor to encourage your entrepreneurial spirit?
A: Right now our Board of Directors, friends, and individuals who are familiar with our work encourage us in our projects.
Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of running your own business?
A: The most important aspect of running our own business is the freedom to make decisions. We can accomplish the goal if we are willing to put in the work. With the guidance of the Lord we can and will decide the direction and outreach of Transformation Theatre Productions Inc.
